VW oil not where it's supposed to be?

Hey all. The van is going in to the mechanic Tuesday but thought I would share what im experiencing. It started slowly dripping and then after a 15 mile drive home I parked up and this happened within half an hour. can't see up as my belly pan is hiding it and can't see anything from the top looking down the front. The back?1397822154532.jpg

Could very well be. You should be able to tell the difference from the smell also.

It seems that the lad who done the balljoint reckons he may have snapped or knocked out the driveshaft retaining clip letting the torrent of gearbox oil flo freely. does this sound and look about right to you Marlow, or anyone?

Yes. That can very well happen, if he's been a bit hard with the darn thing. Shouldn't be too bad to fix though, unless the gearbox was running completely dry.

Is this the center driveshaft on the right hand side, where it joins the gearbox ? Did they by any chance take that fully apart ?

If you assemble the engine mount of that the wrong way around, it'll be half way out of the gearbox.

I have one from a '97 2.4d Caravelle. Should be pulling it out of the van this week. Has 220k miles on the clock, but runs without niggles.

250 GBP/300 EUR for the box.

So you get a ball joint done an now you need a gearbox. Seems a little strange to me when all you though was wrong was the cv boot. It joint is a simple job an you'd want to be pretty rough to effect the cv.
