Thread: T4 from Caravelle to Camper

  1. #31
    This arrived :

I bought a worktop cutoff and cut to size

Cut a big hole in it and screwed it to the side and the units

Fitted the tap and the new smaller doors to the end unit

    All sealed up

Dug out my hole saw and cut down through the unit under the hob for the gas dropout, which went fine till I hit metal and the hole saw blunted itself. Will pick up a new one tomorrow.

Picked up a new holesaw... blunted that one too, so drilled it out with a ring of holes and dremeled it round. Silkaflexed and screwed the vent into the hole from the bottom up as the tube bit wasn't long enough to reach all the way down. Put some mesh over the opening at the top instead.
Also fitted the gas pipes and waste water pipe + cut some board for a table (will cover it later) and screwed the leg to it.

only had an hour this eve so cut some end panels to shape and carpeted them. Will screw them in tomorrow.

Screwed those carpeted panels in and fitted spreader plates under the floor where the bed secures.

Trial fitted my leisure battery on the stainless tray I had made as its booked in to the auto electricians for Sat morning.

    Started like this :

    Tray in, fits perfectly :

    Uhoh....

Gah! Battery is too high... you can see where the filter housing should screw to the firewall...

Don't really want to exchange the battery as postage would be $$$, I guess I've 3 options...
    1) "massage" the airfilter housing or make a new one
    2) Fit the battery in the back somewhere (not mad on that idea...).
    3) Try swop it for a smaller sized battery with someone.

The leasure battery is sitting under the left hand front seat (drivers in LHD, passenger in RHD), if you order it as a factory option. You'd only fit a 65 Ah battery under there though and you'd need a battery base like this.

I had that base, but decided against using it, because there simply wasn't enough space in it for the size of battery i wanted.

Anything offroad and anything fast enough to get you into trouble.

decided I'll fit it under the bonnet afterall and do some sort of smaller pollen filter setup later.

Today I'd a spare hour or so and made this as theres no cup holder in the bus and I've emptied my coffee into the door pocket twice now.

bought some battery cables, a 6 way fusebox, 4meters of 30 amp cable and a few 12v sockets

Refit the dual battery and leisure battery

    Split charger in and wired

Fusebox, tap and pump wired (need to tidy it up a bit)

3 way socket and a usb socket wired in

Removed a lot of redundant wiring from the roof of the van and replaced the aerial with a new one + ran cable to stereo.
