Another sheet was got from B&Q. This one bigger and 18mm though, opposed to the 9mm sheets used for the benches. It'll have to carry a lot more weight without support.
Attachment 203
Bit of wood to support the table/bed either side.
Attachment 204
Since it's quite difficult to hold things, operate a drill, hold the scews and screw things into place at the same time, when doing this craic on your own, I had to improvise. I tried with various bits and bobs, like oil canister, empty cardbord boxes, etc. until it hit me: bottle jack - perfect tool for the job.
Attachment 205
Nearly getting there.
Attachment 206
And finally, I've got a bed. The piece of timber at the end there in the back prevents the table-sheet from sliding around the place. The same has been done at the back.
Still have to figure out, what I'm gonna do for table-legs. Somebody was suggesting to hang the table from the roof and honestly after thinking about it: it's not a bad idea. I could basically either have the table at bed height, table height or winched under the roof when I want it out of the way.
Anyhow, took the van for a spin with some offroad and things stayed pretty much in place. All good.

A few more bits got done before Vantastival
Attachment 270Attachment 271Attachment 274
The 220v, leasure batteries (one each side of the van, fridge and split-charger system got wired in.
Attachment 273
For the relay, fuse etc., I've used existing holes in the bulkhead for now. Obviously that still needs to be tidied up.
Attachment 272
My underslung airtank for the compressor system also arrived on friday.

My scrappy arrived a few days ago and I got a few nice bits and pieces.
- OEM jack
- the locking mechanism under the 2 seater bench, which was missing in the orange one.
- the new type engine lid with oil and water service openings + better noise insulation.
- a new steering wheel
- a headrest for the drivers seat.
- right hand drive front lights
and a few other bits and pieces.

I was also in IKEA on thursday and got a 90x200 and a 140x200 foam madress, that I'm going to cut as I need them. I've ripped the one of the two benches out again today and rebuild it differently, so that I'll be able to have a lid at the top and can open it. I've also extended it, so it will be the full 2 meters.

Attachment 354
My 220v inverter/charger back in place.
Attachment 352Attachment 353
I then started to construct a lid on the bench using these hinges. They broke within 10 minutes and wouldn't open properly either. Bad plan.
Attachment 355Attachment 356
Next attempt: Piano hinges.

The floor is fit, so that I don't have to cut holes in the steel floor for the table legs. It also gives me the possibility to store ramps under the floor.
Attachment 363Attachment 364
Bed in place and then tested to set up the table with a few canisters. The rear section can be used as bench or extends the bed to 2m.

And finally, stuck the 1.4m x 2m madress in for now. Has to be cut to size, so has the 0.9m x 2m one. But everything in their good time.

Attachment 422Attachment 423Attachment 424
My charger/inverter packed in today. I've had it about 2 years (was in my Caravelle before) and it's got plenty abuse, so I guess I got ok use out of it.
Anyhow, replaced it with a 20A trickle charger for now. 220V circuit without battery backup. Bolted the 220V power strip and split charger fuse into the bench, so it's not flying about.
Attachment 425
Also bought a 6-way fuseboard for blade fuses. It takes one power feed (up to 100A) and has 6 spots for fuses, where you just stick normal flat connectors on the outside. I've used this for things on the leasure circuit. For now, that's the fridge and the interior light in the back. Probably also gonna wire the radio to that in the morning.
Attachment 426
Rewired the interior light in the back (was completely disconnected) and wired it to the fuse board. Beats the LED workshop lights.

Attachment 486
The charger in my van died, so a 9000W peak/3000W continous charger replaces is. You'd ask, how that's different from what I had in there before. Well, this one is pure sine wave :)
Attachment 487Attachment 488
2 flats in one week means changing the tyres. I got my hands on a set of 5 BF Goodrich All Terrains. Tasty.
Attachment 489Attachment 490
And the reason for the oil-leak at the front left tyre was a busted CV boot. Hard to see, when it's enclosed inside the axle. Nicely protected for offroading though.
A few more things to be done before leaving on the road trip next week, like replacing the locking cylinder on the sliding door.
