Said i'd stick a thread up here on our on going road trip.
Took nearly a month off work and headed to Italy with the van for our holiday this year. Its our first long spell in the van with or new arrival(6 month old Ruby!)
We left Dublin on thursday 27th to Holyhead, then Dover to Dunkirk. Handy place to park the camper for a kip in "Marine Parade" beside the ferry terminal in Dover if anyone ever arrives late and has to wait for early morning ferry. There were at least 7-8 other campers parked there for the night. Met a good few split busses heading to a show in Belgium on the ferry, and some very nice bugs! will get pics up when i get back to my own internet.
Arrived in Dunkirk at around 11 on friday morning and needed to be in Imola for the World Superbike by Saturday night. Stoped over in a campsite in St Avold in France. We were aiming to get to St Louis, but tiredness caught up and had to haul up for the night!
Another full day of driving on saturday got us through Switzerland and we arrived in Imola late Saturday night, with 1400 miles clocked up so far. Had a great day at the racing and got to meet Eugene Laverty.
Headed on towards Florence on Sunday evening and spent two nights there, one in a campsite/hostel that looked like a bit of a dump to start off with, but ended up not as bad as it looked, with free wifi and close to the city called "Villa Camerata" costing €23 euro for the night.
Second night in Florence we stayed in "Camping Village Michelangelo", which was a great campsite with a nice bar, mini market, wifi from the camper, and right beside some of the main attractions, around 10-15 minute walk from the centre of town. It had a night club/disco bar thing too, but far enough away not to keep you awake all night. One night here was €40, a bit dear but was worth it for how close we were to everything.
then we spent two nights in a really nice campsite in Pisa called "Torre Pendente" which was a handy 10 minute walk to the leaning tower. its a realy clean campsite with a nice bar and swimming pool. Two nights there was €74.
We are heading down along the west coast of italy now and hoping to go back up through Germany for the moto gp next weekend.
