Is it a mk1, I guess it is. The round section frame with the brace with the circular hole up near the forks.
Give me a price so I can ask the lads on the Irish oldschool page. Adverts.ie is the best place to advertise it but to be honest the arse has fallen out of that market, so it might be worth more to you to build up yourself. Check out Adverts for a rough guide for prices in Ireland.

Can you post a link to the Irish oldschool page you mentioned?

@Shaggy - it's a closed group Facebook page. Are you on FB?

@8valve - Did you have a BMX in the 80's? I did, an raced an bought the mags so I guess it's like ok guys wanting mk2 escorts etc, or mk2 golfs! Plus they're big in the Aircooled Vw scene, Choppers where vogue for a while but then a few old school bmx's turned up an everyone had one plus could now afford the more expensive models. They still ride the same an can be raced or if you could do tricks, you won't have forgot so you can knock fun out of them. Theyre great for getting around the big VW shows too.

I'd say a big thing is that anyone with little skills an living in an apartment can restore them.

@Dirty1 - thanks for the insight! I spent my teens in the 80s racing bikes, thinking I'd be the next Sean Kelly (along with every other youngfella racing back then! HAHA).
My first experience of vans was going headfirst through the windscreen of one while out training one day after being unlucky enough to meet an inattentive lady driver who 'never saw me'...!
I still have my old Peugeot racing bike in the shed, resplendent in Reynolds tubing in metallic pink/purple....wonder how that'd go down being ridden around a VW show?!

The portability of pushbikes and simple mechanics of them would certainly make them an achievable restoration project for someone tight on space and budget, definitely.

BMX changed a lot of kids lives in the 80s it certainly did mine. I think the retro BMX thing appeals more to those that gave up BMX at some stage and look to buy an old bike to re-live the best times of their lives in some small way. I never gave up and have allways had a BMX since I started back in 81. To me the retro thing only makes sense if it's a top of the line old Hutch or GHP or similar.
I was never a fan of Raleigh bikes I allways thought they were overpriced and badly designed and didn't deserve the huge market share they had in Ireland back then.
The extra burner paintjob I reckon was styled after (ripped off from) the Kuwahara E.T. bike that was used in the film.

Paintjob look familiar?
